Neighborhood Board of Directors

Our neighborhood has a 12-member Board.  Four Board members rotate off each year and four new Board members rotate on.  The Board is never static.  We attempt to have a relatively equal number of Board members from the four quadrants of our neighborhood, with Elm Street and the Park itself defining the four quadrants.    To nominate yourself or a neighbor to the neighborhood Board, please contact 2011 President Robert Kantlehner. The Board meets monthly at the date/time/location noted below.  For specific dates, click the News tab.  Click here to learn of neighborhood volunteer opportunities and responsibilities.

Our neighborhood Articles of Incorporation were created in September 1978 and our neighborhood Bylaws were amended in 2007.  Minutes of monthly Board of Directors meetings are usually available within a month after a Board meeting.  They must be typed by our Secretary, a Board volunteer, and approved at the following meeting, then can be posted, so we appreciate your patience.

Neighborhood Greeters

We are fortunate to have up to four neighbors, one in each quadrant, who volunteer to greet new neighbors and deliver a copy of recent newsletters, a map of the neighborhood and Historic District, Historic District Guidelines, and other valuable information.  If YOU are new in the neighborhood, please contact a neighborhood Greeter to arrange a brief visit.  Understand that neighborhood Greeters do not patrol to see who has moved in, so it's up to you to contact our volunteer Greeters.  Click here to see our four Greeter's contact information.  Kim Martin Kimconrad_1@yahoo.com kindly coordinates our Greeters!

Neighborhood Block Captains

Our neigborhood hasover 25 generous Block Captains who voluntarily deliver quarterly newsletters throughout the year, as well as managing annual Luminaria purchases.  Click HERE to find your Block Number on a Block Captain map. Once you know your Block Number, then click HERE to find your Block Captain's contact information.

To volunteer to be a Block Captain, please contact Jim Willis 275-5092 if you live in the northern areas of Fisher Park or Cheryl Poole 275-0333 if you live in the southern areas of Fisher Park.

Neighborhood Map

Our neighborhood is approximately  7 x 7 city blocks in size.  View a map of our Fisher Park neighborhood.  Our neighborhood Association represents the entire neighborhood, not just the smaller Historic District within the neighborhood.

Neighborhood Newsletter

Volunteers generate Fisher Parker newsletters quarterly. Over  25 volunteer Block Captains deliver newsletters to our over 900 homes, apartments, and businesses.  We also physically deliver paper copies to Greensboro's Police Chief and our Police Community Resource Officers, City Manager, all City Council members, our County Commissioner, other nearly neighborhood leaders and former residents who've requested receipt via e-mail.  We always encourage additional volunteers to help deliver to blocks without Block Captains, to write articles, to manage advertisements, or to assume the editorship for Fisher Parker newsletters.  Click here to read issues of the quarterly Fisher Parker newsletter.  Contact Ann Stringfield to volunteer your interest and talents in Fisher Parker newsletter production!

Neighborhood Watch

Police consistently advise us not to give money or work to people who wander through neighborhoods, because it only enables behaviors better helped in other ways.  A source of significant local community health and human services is available 24/7/365 by dialing 2-1-1 or visiting  http://www.partnersendinghomelessness.org/  In an emergency, dial the Greensboro Police at 911 or otherwise use their non-emergency number 336-373-2222.  Report all suspicious behaviors to Greensboro Police at 911!

Our Neighborhood/Community Watch volunteer is Sonya Lowe at 336-209-5525 or  lowesonya@gmail.com.  Please post your neighborhood watch concerns to our e-mail list and contact Sonya Lowe to organize a neighborhood-wide Community Watch meeting.

Neighborhood Children's Events

Childrens Events Coordinator is Rosemary Kenerly who organizes the Easter Egg Hunt and Halloween Parade and Party.  See the News page for specific event dates.

Neighborhood Park Committee

Our neighborhood Park Committee member list is here.    The Park Committee meets irregularly so Park Committee reports are available irregularly.  To discuss or volunteer for the Park Committee, contact Sally Atwood for Park Committee meeting times/dates/details.  We even have a Park Master Plan for the park plantings!  See one plan for East Fisher Park and one plan for West Fisher Park plantings.  Also see the Fisher Park Landscape Managment Policy & Procedures approved in 2009.  Contact the Park Committee for details.

If you're a gardener, you'll also enjoy a 1989 booklet "Guide to the Restoration of Fisher Park Grounds and Gardens for the Fisher Park Historic District: a Study of Landscape Architecture and Gardening Styles for an Early 20th Century Neighborhood in Greensboro, NC".authored by Chip Callaway, neighborhood resident and nationally respected Landscape Architect.

Want to use the City park for a special event?  Need to know City park rules and regs? You may need to complete a City of Greensboro Park Request Form.  Of course, small informal events don't require any form.  Just get out there and enjoy delightful Fisher Park!

Neighborhood Survey Results

In 2003, neighborhood volunteers mailed a survey, gathered results, and held two public meetings to document concerns and desires of our neighborhood residents and property owners. There is much raw data you are welcome to see, but here is an overview of the Fisher Park Next Generation Committee's findings.  Only you can help bring these goals to fruition.  Find a goal you'd like to participate in, then contact any Board member to volunteer your time for any project.  Thank you!

Neighborhood House & Garden Tours

Every 4-5 years, neighborhood volunteers coordinate a home and garden tour as a fundraiser.  Our 2002 Home and Garden Tour celebrated our neighborhood's centennial.  A special 2009 Garden Tour Guide was added to showcase gardens.  To volunteer to help organize another tour, e-mail Todd McCain.
